After spending the entire winter with my mind, I decided to play the field a bit. Spring is here, and I am stoking fires with old loves. Rekindling and reconnecting with my body, my eyes, my ears.

And particularly my taste buds too.

The passion and ecstasy that Taste Buds and I have together is near holiness. When we’re apart, we long for each other. When we’re together, we waste no time in turning up the fire. And when we get our groove on, well, look out world.

I’m not usually one to kiss and tell, but there’s one particular adventure that is running through my mind this morning.

Wild Rice (Pender and Abbot St, Vancouver) has long been a romantic haunt of ours. In the evening as dusk sets in, the long glass bar of the room glows a frosty blue. Candles are set and an ambient chill relaxes us and puts us in the mood. The aroma, a sweet and exotic bouquet. Here we will travel down paths.

There’s the Shanghai Alley and the Dragon’s Eye Prawn Sui Mai. There’s the Sable Fish. The Bison. There’s the China Town Sweep. We experiment. Sometimes we fail, but we do so happily. It’s adventuresome. It’s exploration.

And as we build up our hungry lust, on nearly every occasion we bring our passion back to what has nearly always been our focus. The Su Dong Wild Boar. Oh My God. Yes, dear reader, at this point Taste Buds and I go hog wild. It’s sweet. It’s explosive. It’s sublime.

We come down off our high together, sipping slowly on the Blossoming Jasmine tea (a seductive preamble to what more may come). We savour. We chill.

Mmm. I get a bit warm just thinking about it and as I write this Taste Buds are stirring excitedly. Oohwhee. Mayhap another night out is in order…

PS__ You and We

A couple of us Xangans are chatting about putting on a dinner party somewhere in the next month or so. Primarily to bring together the randoms we’ve developed online relationships with over the years through Xanga, Facebook, Myspace and the like. Any takers? Personal invites will be sent out, I assure youse.

I’m also wanting to put together something more intimate for my real life friends. Something regular. Something frequent! Sooooooooooon.

Co-promoter Tammy (AKA Dragonlet) and I are looking at May 27.

80% of those I know online are elsewhere in the world, but you can join us in spirit. Perhaps we’ll set a laptop down at the table on your behalf.

Set down a laptop where? Well, that’s not decided yet. Thoughts we had included Wild Rice, Chambar and Crave. But its wide open to suggestion.
